MAYBE
One day, the farmer’s horse ran away, and all the neighbors gathered in the evening and said ‘that’s too bad.’
He said ‘maybe.’
Next day, the horse came back and brought with it seven wild horses. ‘Wow!’ they said, ‘Aren’t you lucky!’
He said ‘maybe.’
The next day, his son grappled with one of these wild horses and tried to break it in, and he got thrown and broke his leg. And all the neighbors said ‘oh, that’s too bad that your son broke his leg.’
He said, ‘maybe.’ The next day, the conscription officers came around, gathering young men for the army, and they rejected his son because he had a broken leg. And the visitors all came around and said ‘Isn’t that great! Your son got out.’

    I want to add something:

    ITEM 1:
Rhetorical devices: I think “the cat – a person, the lion in the mirror – the image that person see him/her self.” is metaphor (not simile)
Message: I think this picture refers to the way some people see themselves. Some self-assess more highly than the ability that they have. They don’t know their real level and just think that they are better than others. In fact, they are just the frog at the bottom of the well.
    ITEM 2:
Message: I don’t get much about your idea. But I think, the message is “In life, there is no misfortune without small gain and vice versa. Don’t think much when meeting bad luck and not to be too happy when meeting good luck. We should keep serenity in your mind in the face of the wheels of life”
    ITEM 3:
Rhetorical devices: Metonymy: the boy – a group of people
    Message: I agree with u

    That’s my subjective comment.

    • thank you so much for your comment ^^ .
In item 1, I see that I make a mistake ” simile” -” metaphor”, and I will correct it immediately. However, in my view, the message is true because we can see this picture in both positive and negative side. Your idea is on the negative side. In some case, the self- assess more highly than the ability can create the motivation for us to reach the better result. For example, before an important interview, the confidence is extremely important. So why don’t you believe in yourself as the way the cat see itself in the mirror? It will help you feel more comfortable and confident. That the sight from the positive side.
In item 2, I will express the message clearly. It is also the way you think.
      In item 3, I agree with u

I agree with Ha on your item 1. Actually, cat is a lovely pet. The lion is on the contrary. Sometimes you take yourself for a cat, but, in fact, you are a lion. Only when you look at yourself, you can see that. So the message is you shouldn’t appreciate yourself too highly.

    • Thank Ngân alot for your comment. Yes, I see your point. However , I think the meassage ” what matters most is how you see yourself.” is true because Ha gave her idea on nagative side and I also gave an example on positive side. Therefore, the way you look at yourself will give a big influence on your life. It is the same meaning with “what matters most is how you see yourself.”

I would like to add my ideal in your item 1. ” what matters most is how you see yourself ” is your so many sides meaning. I just want to wonder that the picture would be an encouragement in the positive way because the lion is better than the cat. If your message can be a brief that” live with your sense ” or not.

  4. Lê Thị Hoài Thu says:

honey, the picture in first item really brings opposite thinking, in both positive and negative ways. to me, i think that being confident is important and necessary. However, the cat should be confident with itself, when it is a cat. Trying to become an other, is that called the confidence??🙂
